Presidential Blog #1

Welcome to the first presidential blog for the Ohio Communication Association (OCA). I’d like to take this opportunity to introduce you to our association and tell you the benefits of joining our member ranks. We are one of the oldest state associations in the US. Our membership includes full-time and part-time faculty, undergraduates, and graduate students. OCA is often the first conference that students attend. We’re proud that these same students stay with OCA throughout their careers and often tell us that they found their legacy as they partnered with us over the years.

OCA holds an annual conference at various institutions across Ohio during the first weekend in October. The conference includes an undergraduate pre-conference on Friday, and the full conference includes Friday and Saturday, with sessions geared towards teaching, research, and service. Friday evening includes an award ceremony that recognizes top students and faculty members for their work in the academy. If you’d like to nominate a deserving faculty member or student, please check out our website for more information. #OCA2019 will be held at Xavier University in Cincinnati. This year’s conference theme is: Enhancing our Communities Through Communication.

Additionally, OCA publishes an award-winning journal. Our journal provides opportunities for scholars to pursue their research interests across a variety of contexts. Recently, the journal was recognized by the Central States Communication Association for its outstanding efforts. More information is available on our website if you’d like to submit your work.

As I close this first blog, I want to say how grateful I am to serve as the president of OCA. If there’s anything I can do to help you become a part of our legacy association, please let me know. I can’t wait to see what the future holds for this amazing membership.
